About the Role
Schedule: Mondays 3PM to 7PM and Sundays 9AM to 5 PM Sunday’. Availability for respite care high preferred.
About the client: 8-year-old girl with severe anxiety, ADHD, PDA (pathological demand avoidance), and complex trauma. She was opiate exposed in utero and is adopted. She is super smart, very outgoing, and very physically active. She generally has a sunny, extroverted, creative disposition and can be quite affectionate, generous and empathetic.
She requires extra observation to ensure she stays safe, especially in the community, such as not running into the street. This is often due to poor impulse control, where there is no delay between what she thinks and what her body does. When she is anxious, it often looks like she is being oppositional when it's actually her anxiety showing, such as talking and asking questions repeatedly or attention seeking behaviors. She tends to become oppositional when she doesn't get what she wants, such as becoming verbally aggressive or physically running around and grabbing things, and can get stuck there. Communication is hard for her when she's already concentrating on something else, she needs to be gently coached to pause/redirect as opposed to abrupt transitions.
