About the Role
Location: SE Portland 97266
Schedule: Flexible scheduling. M-F after 4pm and/or Saturdays anytime.
We are seeking a caring and warm caregiver to provide care for an 11-year-old boy. The client needs a DSP to support with activities of daily living, build independence, and develop social and emotional regulation skills. The client needs a DSP who can encourage him to engage in activities outside of the house such as playing soccer at the park, going to the arcade, or visiting the museum. This role requires a patient professional who is committed to giving the client time to get to know and become comfortable around them.
Responsibilities:
• Provide daily care and assistance to the client, including support with chores, making snacks, hygiene, and engaging in activities outside of the home.
• Assist with providing transportation to and from activities in the community.
• Monitor the client’s physical and emotional condition, reporting any significant changes to the team.
• Manage potential behavior challenges that arise including emotional dysregulation and verbal aggression by providing guidance on acceptable responses and encouraging him to find a safe space to deescalate when necessary.
• Support client in building social and communication skills by modeling appropriate behavior and providing prompts and cues as needed.
Qualifications:
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle to provide transportation
Requirements
Daily Requirements:
Scheduling – each DSP has a set schedule with the assigned client(s)
Smart phone – use a cell phone to clock in/out for visits and complete the daily progress notes.
Patient, Kind and Positive – caring for clients with disabilities requires someone who can be patient, support the client through kindness and understanding, and provide positive reinforcement throughout the shift.
Driving – depending on the client, they may need to be driven to community events or appointments. Valid license and insurance required if driving will be needed.
Support – develop and maintain positive working relationships with the assigned client(s), their families and the FRR Support Manager
