About the Role

Schedule :
Monday-Thursday: 4pm-9pm
Friday: 4pm-9:30/10pm
Saturday-Sunday (Occasional & Optional)
Overnights (Occasional & Optional)

We are seeking a friendly, active, and compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support an energetic 18-year-old young man who thrives on connection and fun. He enjoys playing Xbox and Wii, riding bikes, swimming in the summer, going on walks/hikes and visiting the zoo. He is looking for someone who can take him to his activities, including basketball and community events. He’s looking for someone who can be both a supportive caregiver, and a friend.

Academically he is at a 1st-grade level. He enjoys helping out with snacks and meals as he builds his independence skills. He is a very picky eater, so meals will mainly be prepared by his mother but may require assistance with meal prep when she is unavailable. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being active, engaging in games and outdoor activities, and supporting a young adult in developing life skills in a respectful and empowering way.

Responsibilities:
Engage in activities such as video games, biking, swimming, hiking (weather permitting)
Supporting with simple meal prep when family is unable to assist (i.e. chicken nuggets)
Support with hygiene when needed
Provide companionship and emotional support
Adapt to the client’s developmental and communication style
Requirements:
At least 1 year of caregiving experience with adults

Requirements

Daily Requirements: 

  • Scheduling – each DSP has a set schedule with the assigned client(s) 

  • Smart phone – use a cell phone to clock in/out for visits and complete the daily progress notes. 

  • Patient, Kind and Positive – caring for clients with disabilities requires someone who can be patient, support the client through kindness and understanding, and provide positive reinforcement throughout the shift. 

  • Driving – depending on the client, they may need to be driven to community events or appointments.  Valid license and insurance required if driving will be needed.  

  • Support – develop and maintain positive working relationships with the assigned client(s), their families and the FRR Support Manager
