North Portland, Portland, OR, USA

Location

Portland

Schedule

Weekends

About the Role

Schedule: Every other Sunday from 8am-1pm. Family is fairly flexible, and may also need coverage on other days when their DSP is sick/out.

Description: This 4-year-old boy is a happy/calm kid. He mainly needs support with mobility, so the DSP will likely run through movement exercises with him during each shift. Exercises can change after each PT/OT appointment, and the client's mom is the one attending the appointments and seeing the exercises modeled, so the DSP will need to be open to feedback as she tries to explain and demonstrate the exercises on an ongoing basis. The client can get upset occasionally (in an age-appropriate way) and can be redirected by talking calmly. He has other DSPs (one at mom's house and one at dad's) helping on weekdays, but the mom's DSP is not available weekends, so she is hoping for help every other weekend on Sundays when she has him. They may need assistance with him out in the community, or have the DSP keep him home while the rest of the family goes out, etc. This client recently got an hours increase, so their may be room for more hours if the DSP is a good fit/if the family feels they need it.

Qualifications:

DSP must not have a peanut allergy, as the client eats a lot of peanut butter products as a source of protein.
DSP must be able to support the clients weight (about 35 pounds).
Must be comfortable traveling to the clients home for work. Please use Pier Park as a reference to check your commute if interested.

Requirements

Daily Requirements:

  • Scheduling – each DSP has a set schedule with the assigned client(s)

  • Smart phone – use a cell phone to clock in/out for visits and complete the daily progress notes.

  • Patient, Kind and Positive – caring for clients with disabilities requires someone who can be patient, support the client through kindness and understanding, and provide positive reinforcement throughout the shift.

  • Driving – depending on the client, they may need to be driven to community events or appointments.  Valid license and insurance required if driving will be needed.

  • Support – develop and maintain positive working relationships with the assigned client(s), their families and the FRR Support Manager
