About the Role
Schedule: Once a week (flexible on day) starting with 1-2 hours. Opportunity for more hours when client is comfortable with DSP.
We are seeking a compassionate and patient Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support a 40-year-old male with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in his daily life. This client is incredibly shy and may initially appear dismissive, but thrives with consistent encouragement, gentle coaxing, and a calm, respectful approach. He values autonomy and responds best when offered choices rather than directives.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is emotionally attuned, non-confrontational, and skilled at building trust over time. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys supporting others in a quiet, respectful, and empowering way—while also being active and engaged in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide gentle reminders and support with daily living tasks.
Encourage participation in community activities and social opportunities.
Assist with scheduling and attending appointments.
Offer choices and foster independence through respectful communication.
Qualifications:
Experience working with adults on the autism spectrum.
A calm, patient, and encouraging demeanor.
2–3 years of DSP experience preferred.
Familiarity with the Portland area or willingness to explore it with the client.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Transportation preferred, but not required.

Must be comfortable with commuting to the clients home (use zip-code 97217 for commute reference)
Requirements
Daily Requirements:
Scheduling – each DSP has a set schedule with the assigned client(s)
Smart phone – use a cell phone to clock in/out for visits and complete the daily progress notes.
Patient, Kind and Positive – caring for clients with disabilities requires someone who can be patient, support the client through kindness and understanding, and provide positive reinforcement throughout the shift.
Driving – depending on the client, they may need to be driven to community events or appointments. Valid license and insurance required if driving will be needed.
Support – develop and maintain positive working relationships with the assigned client(s), their families and the FRR Support Manager
